What is the life of an RN like?

I hate being an RN and feel like I am so depressed and regret wasting my life going to school for it.?

  • What should I do, I don't feel like going back to college again?

  • Answer:

Sounds like you need a vacation or a break. I would take a break, just recharge your batteries. Then when you have been away from it, put some thought into what you want to do. I would imagine being an RN would allow you to choose many different types of settings to work in from an emergency room, assisted living, doctor's office, clinic, schools and so on. Whatever your current job is find the things you do not like about it and find a nurse job that does not have the things that bother you. That may be one solution. Other nurse jobs. I know law firms that do medical malpractice work that employ nurses who work for the law firm for case in-take and things along those lines. If you have sales inclination you could work as a nurse/healthcare recruiter and place other nurses/doctros/administrators. You could also work as a medical equipment/pharmaceutical rep. I imagine there are many more jobs where your nursing degree would be useful. I know you said you do not want to go to school, but with a masters in nursing you could get into the management side of nursing, no hands on, and it pays more. There is a position in hospitals called a CNO, Chief Nursing Officer that pays really well. I think you just need to take some time off and see what other opportunities are available to you besides your current job you hate.

No one can answer that question for you. Perhaps you should try another area within nursing.

I would definitely not stick with a job that i am miserable with. I would quite and get out now. You must be one of those people who just went into the nursing field for the money that is why you probably hate it now. Because if you really went into the filed because you cared about helping people, you wouldn't be so miserable with the job.

Nursing is always listed as one of the 5 or 10 most stressful jobs out there. The one thing you should absolutely not do is beat yourself up about it. Maybe bedside nursing is not right for you, but another niche in nursing might serve you well. There's a lot you can do with a nursing degree. Hell, even some ICU nursing is so technical, it's like a whole new ball game. If you practiced nursing for just 2 weeks, that's more than most people could handle it. It's ok not to be Nancy Nursey, and it's ok to get creative and look for your niche. I think you can use your background to make a decent living without going back to college. Good luck.
