  • Answer:

I have been a CNA for the past two and one-half years. I also have a bachelor's degree in biology. I definitely feel that you should get your certification as a CNA, but if you feel that you do not want to work in that capacity, I recommend mirroring a nurse for a few days. You would have to check the facility and their policy on this. They may require you to be TB skin tested, and you may have to sign a HIPPA form (confidentially agreement). As far as financial stuff, check on your state's scholarship for nursing. I'm from NC and NC provides scholarship funding to nursing students. Good luck!

I think it is well worth it. The experience you get from being a CNA will make you a much better nurse. You will have experienced hands on care from the bottom and will better understand what it means to be a good nurse. Many nurses of today are in the field just for the ability to have a job that is known to be stable and much of the caring aspect is left out. So go for it and I hope you will come out as one of the good nurses of the future.

yes, it is worth doing, you will have more knowledge on how to deal with patients: like positioning them, assisting them to rest room, and even turning them, most nurses today didn't go from cna to nurse, and you find ones that have no clue on the patients personal care, because they never worked as an cna

Yes you should get the CNA. PCT=same thing, different initials. Besides if you have worked as a CNA during nursing school, you will have a better concept of what the work entails. Besides, most BSN;s have no clue about doing floor work as a nurse. Mostly due to limited clinical time.

I became a CNA to get my foot in the door at a hospital but I also the work, but I would recommend anything but home health care.

Depends....However, I think that being a PCT is way better. Either way, it would be easier to first get accepted into nursing. Afterwards, you can let employers know you are in nursing school, which will make it easier for you to be get a job as a PCT in hospitals. Working as a PCT in ED and radiology/endoscopy will give you the best learning experience as a nursing student.
