What do you say to people who are repulsed by health care careers?

    I blow it off usually. But to people who seem especially offensive, i always ask: Who do you think will be taking care of you and your family if something happens? Im sorry it bothers you, but im here for a purpose. Healthcare workers are truly God's gift to the world! When i was a CNA, i always got those comments. But can you imagine how that person would feel if the CNA was repulsed by say, their mom or grandmother? They'd be the offended one then. Anyway, good luck, and I know how you feel =)

I usually smile and make a bland comment like "yeah, it has its moments" or something equally non committal. Those people are just rude or poorly-informed. Not worth the time.

I usually tell them "Thank God we live in a country where we can choose our own profession because every job is not suitable for everyone". I also remind them that I am greatful that we have people then can do all different jobs especially those jobs I couldn't imagine myself doing.

I've worked at a resource center for the homeless about 5yrs and you have to learn "NOT to bite into it". Self control takes ALOT of practice but after a couple of years of being ripped apart it goes right over your head or your just to drained to take it seriously anymore. Never take other peoples comments personal unless its your co-workers or boss who are talking to you.
