  • Answer:

If i were you I would not worry about trying to find a job related to the program but concentrate on taking classes you need. Most require A and P I and II. So I would take those. They will take alot of time and will be very beneficial when you start nursing.

Many hospitals have volunteer programs - you won't make any money but you will gain exposure to the hospital environment.

nurse aid or phlebotomist but you still have to have some training.

Become a Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA). That will get your foot in the door and you'll be better prepared when you go to nursing school.

I’m probably going to have a year off before starting nursing school as well (I’d start September 2010.) There are a lot of things you can do during that time off. You could work and save up money. You don’t have to quit your jobs now. Actually, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have another job lined up. If you want some experience in the medical field, apply to jobs that you are qualified for at the moment, or volunteer. You could apply as a life skills associate in a nursing home or home for mentally challenged, you can complete a CNA program in as little as two weeks at some places. You just have to look around. You could also do some leisurely research on the nursing career itself. Read up on books about the profession, medical topics, etc. This will help get you ready for your studies. If you can afford to do so, take some classes that might help you out - or count towards your degree if you can. Maybe a class in psychology, medical terminology, etc. This is something I plan to do on my time off (if I can’t get a CNA job). I am going to take some biology classes and medical terminology if I can afford to do so, even though some of these courses aren’t required for the actual nursing program. Finally, relax and have fun! Nursing school is a lot of work and can be very stressful. Take a well-deserved vacation before starting, exercise, and enjoy life as much as possible!

Try Aged care nursing, like in a nursing home. To be an assistant it takes very minimal qualifications. Cert 3 and 4 in Aged care can be only just a 6 week course. Also if you go with an agency, you are sent out to different places where needed and its very good pay.
