What jobs are recession-proof in UK?

There are two things guaranteed in life, death and taxes, which means that two 'recession proof' jobs would be working for a funeral parlour and working for inland revenue! Being totally serious though, there isn't such a thing as a recession proof job as all jobs are driven by money in some shape or form, and such, when incoming money slows, firms have to make cut backs, which inevitably means jobs. If you want to survive a recession whether by starting up your own company (have you thought of that?) or by working for someone, consider areas that people cannot do with out. By this I mean essentials rather than luxuries. Examples are health service because people will always get sick, Inland Revenue because people always pay taxes, social housing because people will always need somewhere to live, and education because its mandatory for children to have to go to school until they are 16. Nursing homes I would say are not recession proof because you can always live at home and get a carer in or live with a relative (if they will take you). Nursing, especially advanced practioners and specialised nurses.

Ok so there was a recession proof article awhile ago and some of the safe jobs include; teachers, nurses, some public sector jobs, IT is meant to be a safe job i'm not sure about that one.
