If I become a Registered Nurse (RN), do you think I'll always make good money and always have job security?

remember medicine and nurses will always be needed..studying medicine is a secure job for sure

The medical field is always a good field to get into. RN is a good choice, the pay is good and a good chance for at least 60 years of security, IF your own health issues don't get in the way of your work. You have to be sure you are in this because you love the study of medicine, it is a life time study, for there are always changes. Also be sure you are getting into this because you feel the need to help people, as well as have a stomach of iron, and a heart as strong and big as the Universe. All of this has to be top priority OVER money. If you don't have this, you will get burn out quickly. Nursing is not a plush job, it has it's good side, but also has it's gruesome bad side that can drain you quickly, if you are not cut out for this type of work. This is why nurses are in such great demand, and why there is such a shortage of nurses. And, why the pay is so good. Think good and hard on this before making your final decision. You can make good money being an RN. I had 2 job offers before I graduated school. Starting pay is very good. The job is very rewarding, although very hard. It is not an easy job or an easy school. My class lost about 40% of the students due to academic reasons alone. My class started with 25% guys, ended with 10% guys. As far as degree, my hospital pays only 75cents an hour more for Bachlore Degree graduates. Good luck with your decision

Thats not true. A good friend of mine with 8 years experience was fired due to one of the mental health patients slander and now he can't get a job. Always remember when your working as a RN any patient can say things about you that aren't true. Just because they don't like you and that spells trouble because they take thier word over yours.

I believe that you can not go wrong in the Health Care industry. I have many relatives and friends who are LPN's and RN's There is a major difference in pay and I would encourage one to become an RN if they would like to make more money in their career. I also know that traveling RN's make good moey. Depeding on the State the reqiurements may be different. In MN you have to have a LPN certifcate and then go for a 2 semseters in the RN program. This career is on that is able to get you into that career faster than many others.

Yes nurses are in demand and as older nurses retire you should have no problem finding a job. As long as you are competent and don't have disciplinary action against you or do things that risk your licensure you should not have a problem keeping a job. I know nurses who have worked in the same area for over 20 years. Nurses that can't find jobs usually something is going on with them, because the jobs are out there. Also the areas you can work in are endless. Travelers can make a lot of money. I know a few that have made over 100k. Its a great field with a lot of benefits and choices. Since you have a previous bachelors degree, try finding an accelerated program. There are colleges that offer BS degrees in nursing for people with a previous bachelors degree. The total program is 1 year, going to school year round. I have a few friends who went through accelerated programs.

What country do you live in? If you live in America, then the chances of Obama getting into office are very high. If he does, the possiblity that we will be switched to socialized healthcare is rampant. Socialized healthcare massively decreases the pay of anyone in the medical field. As for job security...well, if the pay's going to suck why would you even want to do it? But that's just one scenario, and my personal opinion on it. As of now, RN's make a nice salary and there's always a need for more people in the medical profession. Good luck!

Yes, because we always need nurses! I want to become an RN too! Yayayayay! And they make about $80,000 a year! Be sure to get at least a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), an associates degree won't make you as much money.

It is not a sure thing you will always get employed. If you do get hired try to stick the job you get hired on. Retirement homes seem to be always hiring. My half sisters mom has been a nurse for many years and she has been let go 2 times and has had a hard time finding a good paying job.
