Is there a Nursing Shortage in NY? Any other tips?

There is another big city that never sleeps, the big easy. We need nurses, and they are raking in right now. Come help us, you'll fall in love with this city, as we all have. You'll love the spirit, the food, the music, the people. We came back to rebuild and we are getting there, but we are in need of good cops, nurses, doctors, techs, most everything. There is a nursing shortage everywhere in the US, though some areas, which have a greater concentration of nursing schools, will have a higher number of graduates who are likely to want to remain in the local area. There are some RN positions posted as BSN or higher preferred, in which the BSN graduates have the advantage in the job selection process, but experience or academic excellence can sometimes overcome the lack of the degree in the preferred listings. There are also some positions which are BSN or higher required, in these positions the BSN graduates have an advantage. There are some positions which require the additional classes which are provided in the BSN programs. Also for those RNs who have an interest in the military, all active duty military RNs must have a BSN or higher. There are more ADN programs than diploma or BSN programs, so the competition is greater among ADN graduates. All that being said, almost all RNs can find a position, though some have a particular preference in which area of nursing they would like to work. Some specialty areas may be harder to get a position in than others. Usually the greatest number or RNs needed at any given time are in medical surgical nursing, if the graduate wishes to get into a limited area, such as Labor and Delivery, they might have a greater difficulty finding employment.

There always looking for nurses in NY/NJ area. Nursing is a great career with all the baby boomers reaching their older years.

There's a nursing shortage worldwide. Lots of reasons like: Governments are not paying them enough so they stay out of the work force. Many leave because the workloads are too high per nurse patient ratio. They don't train enough to meet the world shortage. Training systems are out dated and are no longer in touch with the workforce needs. Pay rates are too low for this profession which doesn't encourage enrolements etc.

Hi! everyone in this post are right. There is a shortage in the USA. And I am affected because I am a patient that lives at home and I use a home health agency. And I have hard time finding a nurse. I been wondering how as a patient what is it that I can do to help this nursing shortage. good luck
