How Much Does A Web Designer Charge?

How much should I charge as a beginning web designer?

  • Hello, I have been learning web and graphic design as a hobby for about 2 years now. I've learned much about design in general and now - finding myself currently unemployed - ...show more

  • Answer:

This was a question I wrestled with when I started out. The correct answer is: as much as you can. That number depends on one thing and that is how much competition there is for your time. When I started out I bid really low (probably too low) and would get projects at $600 - $900 each. Now I won't look at a project unless the budget is $3500. That's because if someone doesn't have that budget I can readily find someone else that does. As your time fills up keep raising your prices until you are charging as much as your local market can stand.

Honestly your rate is going to depend on the amount of pages you decide to include for that person/business. Typically a business website always costs more because it's, well, for a business. Personal websites for someones photography, music etc... would cost a little less. I, myself hate coding and the languages... ugh so frustrating and takes so much time. I have done a few very small websites via www.wix.com No coding knowledge needed. Basically create, drag and drop. Once you're use to their layout and how everything works you could easily build a custom and professional website using wix.com
