Do you have to go to college to become a successful web designer?

Answer:
No, self taught. html/css as well as ap layouts (which is different then divs, I do both), php mysql, graphic design (both print and web), ajax, xml/rss, video editing, flash, and I think that's it. I also make sure to debug (both web pages and server side code database language) and make sure sites look good in as many browsers, as well as cellphones and other media devices. I have done this in 2 years and quite fast when doing it on a daily, large scale day to day basis.

No you do not. I have several friends that are in high school and in college that are web designers, and they have no professional experience. All you need is some art skills and a bit of basic web programming skills.
