Which Information Technology degree should I get?

Can I get a job in information technology with only an associates degree?

  • I will be starting college in january for Computer information science. will an associates degree be sufficient? Or would it be better to get a bachelor's degree?

  • Answer:

The important thing in computing is experience of whatever software you are going ot be working on. Go for something which gives you as much actual experience as possible. Remember though that a lot of computing work is being offshored and jobs are shrinking in the industry. Research what type of skills are most in demand and target getting work experience in those fields.

A bachelor's degree would be better. What I tell everyone is think of your competition. You don't have to be perfect for the job you're applying for - you have to be better than all the other candidates. So you're going to go up against people with more education and possibly more work experience. Having said that, if you get an Associate's degree, but you have some great work experience, your education becomes less of a factor. However, if you don't, you'll be really up against it. Remember - you have to put yourselves ahead of the others ...
