Computer science question.

Computer Science Major, question?

  • What types of fields are in computer science? What does a person do with computer science degree at work place (i mean what do they have to do at work place)?

  • Answer:

Since I am looking at them myself, here's what I've found out. Different colleges/universities have different concentrations available, so you should see what programs there are wherever you're looking. The thing that is universal to all of them is software programming using an object-oriented programming language (usually either JAVA or C++. Many schools offer both, though they start with a basis of one or the other). Beyond that, you might find several different kinds of specializations. I'll list a few categories I've seen, with a couple of examples of things you might learn from them: -Advanced software development (AI programming, code-based graphics) -Microsoft network administration (A+, Network+) -Web development (SQL, .NET, Javascript) -Mechanics of operating systems (UNIX) Like I said, different colleges will offer different combinations of the above, so just check out different programs and see what appeals. As for working, a basic training in object-oriented programming means you will be scripting software of some sort. Other things in the list open other options for what you'll be doing, but the bottom line you will be looking at a lot of code and trying to get it to do something useful. What exactly that will be depends on what skills you learn and what job you get.
