When Should I Become A Freelance Web Designer?

I've been preparing all my life to become an engineer, but now I want to become a web designer; can i switch?

  Well.. why not get a software engineering degree (back end code for websites - I think that's the right kind of engineer.. engineers can do back end code). Basically you'd look into being a back end developer. Then you can learn that and then you can do design after that. It's not like you need to go to school to design. My husband is a self-taught front end developer and does some design too. He took music business in school. If you understand how the back end works, then you can probably figure out how to design it. And if you know how to do front end code, then you should really know. You actually don't need an engineering degree either way, but you will probably be able to make more money if you do, and you'll have way more doors open!
