Is computer science a good career to get in right now?

    The general answer is yes, it's a good career right now. Computer science hiring is expected to increase over the next 10 years (see stats in source below) and in fact are hiring right now. If you go to google.com, hp.com, ibm.com, or a job board like dice.com, there's plenty of CS jobs out there. That said, companies won't just hire anybody just because they have a CS degree. You have to be good. If you enjoy it, and think you are/can be good at it, I'd stick with it.

The pay for software jobs are decreasing from about 40K in 2000 to 10K in 2010 because there are lot of people taking the software line now a days. If you are really interested in CS and can make your mark among 100s of workers then this is best. As per expert's review the demand for CS may increase by 30% in 2012 but payout will decrease by 28% for them.

As long as you like the work in the field, you can go for it. If you are not interested in computers, you will be most unhappy in the work.

The best advise I can give you is Go into a Field that you love with a passion and would go the extra Mile, Be it Computers, Cooking whatever, The rest will Fallow , if you love what you do you will succeed in good times and bad times & if there is more than one thing you do with a passion then do both, you will always do 110% better in doing something you like , correction you love, This way work won't feel like work.
