What are some good first jobs?

What is a good first jobs for a 14 year old to have?

  • I'm fourteen and I want to start working. I can only work about ten hours every school week. What are some suggestions of where to work?

  • Answer:

What do you like? I mean, I'm old but I love animals, and if I were your age and grew up in a moderate to larger urban area, I would go around to veterinarians' offices, tell them you are interested in animals & caring for them, and see if you couldn't get work cleaning cages and helping out and running errands. Or alternatively, look into dog walking with a pro or pet sitting with a pro, and learing the ropes that way. But I don't know what you like, and you would have to give it some thought. Really, though I don't know where you live, times are tough right now for jobs, and I think that might make them impossible for a 14 year old. So if you want to work, you might want to consider carving your own path by figuring out what it is you like or want to do, and then with your parents' consent and support, beating the bushes until you find something that works for you.

Have you got your Tax File Number? If you don't, ask your principle to give a form that you can fill out then send it, after that your TFN will be sent to your house mail. You have to be at least 14 and 9 months to legally work. I suggest that you work at Woly's, Kmart, Coles, or any supermarket shop. I don't really recommend mcDonalds, but its also your choice of where to work.
