Where to find jobs in the Medical Field?

Do you think College is a scam considering that more than 90% of all graduates never find jobs in their field?

  • I mean if your extremely rich and want to go for fun, that's fine, but I see so many people get masters degrees in Art History and Accounting and never find jobs in their field. ...show more

  • Answer:

No i don't , that being said the idea that everyone has to go to college is insane. Some people are not meant to be world class scientists. Getting a degree in underwater basket weaving which we all kinda have a idea which fields those are is useless. Those people would be better served getting a trade.

College is a middle class traditio, a right of passage, where middle class people go to hang out, drink, get laid and so on (depending the era they went to college) After they have done this, they have proof they are middle class, so they can go on to work in a middle class profession. College education was not really designed to make people job ready. Many vocational college have a long reputation of finding people work in their profession, but few of those go on to be future leaders. Colleges and universities are becoming more job focused. I study psychology and the quality of what I learnt was fantastic, however I went off to be research assistant, where 100% of what I learnt was useful. A real job wouldn't have been the same. However a lot of people go on to good careers, some people have no social skills, can't resume and don't want a career, they don't get jobs. I mean a PhD in accounting want get you a job as an accountant. In addition, some people refuse to look for the basic work. You study accounting, so you start doing book keeping and work your way up. Also, due to the nature of the USA, many areas suffer high unemployment and others are the opposite. So some people can't find work where they live. So the moral of the story is, college is not a guarantee, many teachers can't get permanent because they are bad teachers (something a college degree won't cure). In some careers, like computing, the trick is to get your first job. Many computer graduates can't do that (it is in fact very difficult). Once you have a job, your employment is mostly guaranteed.

Yeah I agree with what you wrote...the receptionists at my college was training to become a physics teacher, but because the recession and economy in Britain is really bad, she didn't get all of her university options that allowed her to study physics and teaching. It's really sad. But you know, for me, it's not just college and universities, it's also school. Last year, I took my GCSE (British exams) and even though I'm not sharpest pencil in the box, I done pretty well, getting mostly Bs and I had achieved the marks to study biology, but because my college had less teachers and less money due to the recession, they had to cut down on the number of students and I didn't get it. I find it unfair and I work really hard for nothing. I think it's sad for all those people who tried hard and are not able to get the jobs they want. They work so hard and for what?! I know, it's because there's less money and everything, but it's still unfair. The government d throw a lot of money about and if they didn't and were more careful, they'd be more jobs and opportunities out there for everyone. But, I agree with everything you wrote :-)

Yes and no, just depends on what you want to do. You cant just become a lawyer or doctor without the proper education. You can always learn about both but cant actually practice without passing certain exams which require a certain amount of certified education. But you can always excel in anything when you put your mind to it. My dad never finished high school but can fix just about any car, small engine etc... He taught himself by doing and owned and operated many businesses in the lawn care, small engine repair field. I have a friend who never went to collage yet through years of learning the restaurant business by doing he is now in management at a high volume place in Houston. He makes more than i do and i have 3 degrees, unfortunately the economy has all but decimated my profession which is land planner, landscape architect........and again, you can become a landscape designer by just doing and learning and taking a few courses here and there. It just depends on you own personal outlook.

You misunderstand education. Education gives you a better chance at a better paying position, it does not GUARANTEE you that. Frankly I've never had a job that required the bachelor's degree I got either. But a lot of people are deluded into thinking that they'll be handed the perfect job after school, and it simply doesn't work that way.

don't get me wrong, education is very important! But the whole system is horrible. You can get so much more out of self education then you can out of the class room. College education limits you in the way you are taught and what is taught. In self education there are no boundaries. If you go to college you are paying for a piece of paper that says you know how to do something. I have met a lot of college graduates who had that piece of paper but they didn't know how to do anything or they lacked the work ethics to be successful. Most college students are to busy getting drunk that by the time they graduate they know less then when they went it. You are right, it is a scam it put the masses over their head in debt just so they can get a crappy job. You can find a lot of videos and articles about this all over the internet if you choose to search.

sort of. it isnt 100% everything you need. some people with the right dicipline and skills and talent can just make money without a formal education. but if you have nothing else you can goto college and increase your chances of being successful. but doesnt mean you will be successful. i think they oversell it though
