What is school premises?

Can shops legally stop more than two school children from entering their premises?

  • Numerous shops in my town are displaying notices in their windows stating that no more than two school children at any one time. The local Morrisons actually banned ALL school ...show more

  • Answer:

Any private premises can stop anyone they like from entering. Your Morrisons would not be displaying that sign unless they have had trouble already, in which case their other customers (who spend much more than schoolkids) are more important to them, and they will take whatever actions are necessary to keep those customers.

Yes, a shop is private property and entry would be at the discretion of the management.

It's their shop; they can do what they like unless you are willing to take it to court, which is incredibly expensive and by the time the issue is resolved, you won't have to worry about being a child anymore.

Yes they can. Its their premises and they have every right to protect their stock from thieving feral packs of kids.

Shops can make any rules they want about customers.... "no shirt, no shoes, no service".... or "Speak English".... or "no more than two school children at any one time".... This is a privately owned shop. We are not a totally government-run society....yet.

shop owners can ban anyone from their shops just the same as pubs can refuse anyone entry as well they can also put restrictions on entry as well as dress code it is their shop not the customers

Yes a shop can choose who to give their service to. As long as is not discriminatory (I know they are discriminating against our age, but that would only be valid if they never let school children in their shop but it's just groups of them) then they are allowed to refuse service to anyone. If they ask you to leave and you refuse then you are trespassing because it is private property. Sorry bud they seem to not trust big groups of school children.

Yes of course they can, it is their private property. Schoolchildren CAN be a real nuisance when they gather in gangs in shops. I know many kids are good and law-abiding but unfortunately there are some that try to shoplift or generally cause a nuisance. The shops are well within the law to ban whoever they like from their premises.

Yes it is their property and they are free to trade as they wish within the laws of trading. So yes if this is what they need to do to protect their business, they can.

obviously the private store owners are having theft issues with minors. Now why don't you shut off mommy's computer, take your medication and go back in the basement sweety
