Workweeks in government versus private sector jobs? ?
-
I was just curious what the avg workweeks are for government versus private sector. I want to work around 50 hours a week and not really much more than that.

Answer:
I have had two interviews in the past year for gov't. jobs. Each was 40 hours, no overtime. One was 830-5, M-F, and one was 1130-8, 4 days a week and a Saturday. My husband works for a county dept. and because of the nature of his job, he has to work overtime when needed and most weekends/holidays. Most of the jobs in gov't. offices seem to be 35-40 hours a week, unless you are in an area that works 365/24/7 like medical jobs and law enforcement positions. Generally, if it something that is not "always open" you should be working no more than 50.
