What are some required qualifications to become a professional civil engineer?

  • what are the required qualifications to become a professional civil engineer? and which are the current growth areas and locations where civil engineer is in high demand? thank you!

  • Answer:

Civil Engineers are most wanted in big cities where there is lots of roadway and building construction going on. Required Qualifications: B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Government or State jobs usually require you to have a PE license. That is the professional engineering license. To get that, you need to complete college with your degree, than take the FE exam, also known as the EIT Certificate. Once you get that, you need to get 4 years of relevant experience. After that, you will be eligible to take the PE exam to have the Professional Engineering Certification. With that, your salary goes higher and you can get many more opportunities to get jobs. But to keep your PE license, you need to renew it every year by taking 200 hours of class or training per year. You need to earn 20 CEU's per year, which quals 200 hours. CEU=Continuing Education Unit. They are similar to credits earned in college.
