How to take care of an aloe vera plant and how to take cuttings?

Answer:
They do sprout new babies but if you want to grow a few new plants, cut one of the current leaves off (make sure it is a clean cut as near to the base of the plant as possible). Cut the leaf into 1.5 inch slices and push the bottom (make sure it IS the bit that was at the bottom!) about 2/3 of the way into light, sandy, soil. Don't let it get too wet or dry out completely & it will grow away like mad! If the leaf is big enough you might like to try different rooting methods too - try scoring lines across the back of one of the slices and then weight or pin this to the surface of the soil.

I have loads of aloe veras, and they are at the moment in flower. I tend hardly ever water them as they live on my bathroom windowsill, each time we take a showe/bath the plants suck up the moisture in the air. Around September Ocotber I take off the little babies that the bigger plants have produced and repot them in fresh compost. Last september I had 15 aloe vera plants off my three main adults. As they flowered this year I will not take any babies gtom them, as they need to recover from this. I never water them in the winter, but if they are looking very dry in the height of summer, then I stand them in the bath with some water. Hope this helps.

they are used to being in the desert so keep it in light and dont water very often. i would say maybe once a week you should water it just a little. and when you want to use some of it, you can just break it off and it will grow back.
