Answer:
International relations is a good major for someone who wants to work for an organization that works internationally. This can be a corporation/business, a nonprofit, a university, a federal government office, or a religious organization. You have to couple this degree with a second major or minor and with volunteering experience that puts you on the career route you want. For instance, if you wanted to work for in an office for an international nonprofit, federal agency focused on aid and development, or corporation, you might choose a minor or double major relating to finance/accounting or human resources management. If you want to work in the field (outside of the office) for an international nonprofit or federal agency focused on aid and development, you could minor or double major in sociology, psychology, or agriculture. Your double major or minor could be in marketing, public relations, journalism or communications. You also need language skills. You need to pick a second language to learn well enough to work in. French is highly desired, for work in Africa. Portuguese is highly desired for some counties in Africa and Asia. Russian is also highly desired for Eastern Europe. Arabic is in high demand. Chinese too. Spanish is a good choice if you want to focus on Latin and South America. And you need to volunteer -- help nonprofit organizations in the way you would hope to work someday. If you want to work in the office and be a manager, then focus on administrative tasks for volunteering, for instance.
