RCAs are subs assigned to a single route. It is not a full time job. You are only getting the regular carrier off day and any vacation and sick days the regular carrier takes. That said, in some offices, there is a shortage of RCAs and many work several days per week on other routes or auxiliary routes. I would try my best to keep some hours on the current job, because until the PO management has some faith that you can handle the job, they will not use you on routes other than the one you are assigned to.

As an RCA with 1 year experience, I recommend you consider working for a smaller Post Office where the mail volume is less demanding. An RCA is often "bounced" from route to route and a smaller office could make things a lot easier.
