Im thinking of starting a non-profit organization, but I dont know how to go about it. Help?

Sassy has it mixed up, but Katherine has a good idea. If you want the regs, go to www.irs.gov. click "charities and nonprofits" First you have to incorporate in your state. THEN you register with IRS and request tax exempt status. And yes, you do need an adult to do this. Katherine's idea is your best bet, until you get things rolling. Actually, that's the way most nonprofits start up - under the wing of an established organization. Then they separate when they're strong enough.

You must contact the national organization and receive permission to operate your own camp. If there is none then to start your own nonprofit check out irs.gov You need a slate of officers, board of trustees, and a mission statement plus bylaws. You then submit the proper forms to register your nonprofit with the IRS. You then receive a tax exempt number. You need this to open a bank account and so donations are tax deductible. Someone under 18 can not be the applicant.
