Is private Job better then Government Job?

Which is better government job or private job?

  • govt job Vs pvt job

  • Answer:

Government jobs include jobs of the federal government, state government, municipal government. Private jobs include jobs of the large multi national corporations, small to medium size companies, NGOs(non government organizations), and sole proprietor companies. Therefore, jobs in each category is different. Federal jobs rarely subject to layoffs, but they happen when a program or a military base is closed. Hundreds if not thousands jobs have been lost when military bases are closed or port is closed. When 150,000 combat troops are returning from Iraq, you can bet some of them will be left without a position soon. State jobs are even more volatile depending on the health of the state budget. California not only laid off staff this summer but also issued IOUs for paychecks to the state employees. Municipal government is even more volatile in hiring. Many firemen and policemen are laid off because of the budget cut. State colleges and community colleges are also part of the government system. Many teachers have been laid off last year and this year. For private companies, large companies hire each year, but some have this forced attrition policy. The bottom 10% of the staff in terms of performance will be let go each year. General Electric, Microsoft, are a few companies practice such approach. Smaller companies are sometimes risky and they may even go out of business if the economy gets bad. Then there are the NGOs. Normally their pay scale is much lower than the government or private companies. Therefore, my conclusion is that there are pros and cons for government positions and there are also pros and cons for private positions. It is better to evaluate the job itself than to determine the potential employer as a category for comparison.

Government. You can be a total screw up, no one will fire you, and you'll collect a fat pension.

Government, definitely. The salaries are based on how much taxes is collected on the state, local and federal levels. I personally would rather work for the feds than the state, county, or city. It seems like the local offices here are slower to move than the feds. Probably because here the local budgets are being cut back a lot more than the national budget. So there is little room where I'm at to hire applicants for the city or county jobs. And, I'm already in the federal system due to a Census job last year. So, you would think it would go faster on the fed level. You would think... :/ But, like others said there is a lot of bureaucratic red-tape to cross through and it takes a freaking long time to get in. Almost too long if you ask me. But the benefits are good if you do get in.

Government job is a job secure for life, usually, but you need to be squeaky clean and not be connected in any way, shape or form with any rogues, nothing you do out of office hours should bring your department into disrepute. You need to be discreet also, about everything you see or hear and not discuss anything at home. Private jobs will give you more freedom on the other hand.

Yeah government jobs are hard to get into, but once you're in you could probably murder someone and not get fired. The downside is that (in my opinion) this leads to some people not being very professional because they think their job is safe no matter what. Civilian jobs usually pay more and have a higher ceiling though.
