    You register with the mystery shopper company and when a shop in your area comes available an email is sent to everyone in that area who has registered and they are all sent out an email and whoever replies first gets that shop to visit and buy something and then report back what you thought of the service etc and for doing that you get £20 but you only get about 4-6 per year

Most mystery shoppers are hired by companies through agencies, although I am sure some do employ them directly. I would contact a few companies you'd like to work for and ask if they employ them directly and if not, what agency they use for mystery shoppers. This will at least give you some genuine agency names you can contact for further enquiries.

Google Gapbuster. I worked for them, hey are a (huge) legit company, but unless you live in a large town (lots of potential assignments) then don't expect to make much. Their wages are *exluding* tax - so you will have to declare the income tho HMRC and possibly pay tax on it (depending on your other income). All in all, it is more hassle than it's worth.

There are large and reputable companies that employ Mystery Shoppers. They then supply them to other companies who want to know what their service is like. The jobs don't pay brilliantly but are very interesting. I'd suggest you use Your contacts to find someone who works in the industry. Or go and speak to a few companies who use Mystery Shoppers - find out who they use and then speak direct. My old company used them to visit 2000 businesses once per month
