What's the age requirement to become a business owner?
-
I am browsing through all these books, but none of them say age requirement. Is it legal to be 21 and have your own business?
-
Answer:
There is no age requirement, but minors can not sign an enforceable contract.

Sure. As a matter of fact, you can own your own online business quite easily. Great site and ideas. I bought a couple of the ebooks and put it into motion and now I'm seeing results.

18 is the age for signing legal documents. You can be a business owner AND operator at any age really, but if under 18 you need adults to handle most of the legal end. Since you are 21, sign away and give your all.

I think there is no right age to become a business owner, although if one is underaged, the company will be managed by a guardian and its funds under a trustee. As long as you have the capital and know exactly what business you want to go into, then go for it but a feasibility study should be done first on the viability of the business especially if it will require a huge capital. But if it's only a small business or home-based business requiring not much manpower but yourself or family members, then there is no need to make it more complicated for yourself. Good luck!

In the U.S., a person can enter into binding contracts in his own name when he is 18. So, he can be in business at 18. Certain businesses might require one to be 21 -- those involving selling alcohol or tobacco. Otherwise, there is no legal impediment as long you are 18. That is not to say that others will deal with you. For instance, a franchise operation might say you are too young to buy a franchise, because you lack the experience etc and will tarnish their reputation. So, your youth might be a practical impediment, but not a legal impediment.
