What's the best way to make a good impression in a job interview?

  • I'm going for an interview for a smmer job at a cafe near where i live - and i'v never had a job before

  • Answer:

be clean, neat and dress conservatively. Smile and make eye contact, ALWAYS BE POSITIVE and POLITE. Turn up EARLY. Shake hands firmly, and say "good morning, it's nice to meet you Jane " when you are introduced. Speak clearly, don't chew gum, outline your positive points. Wait for the interviewer to finish speaking before answering a question, keep a tissue in your pocket in case your nose starts running. Don't talk too much off the topic

Be there early, but not too early (5 - 10 min before the scheduled time). Being late is a sure-fire way to *not* get the job. If you can't be bothered to make the interview on time, you most likely wouldn't be on time for work every day either. Dress appropriately. Wear clothes that reflect that you take care of your appearance. Clothes should be clean, ironed, and modest - no spaghetti straps or bare midriffs, etc. Don't wear heavy makeup or too much perfume. Make sure your nails are trimmed and well-groomed. If you're wearing nail polish, it should be conservative and not loud or showy. It should be freshly applied, not chipped and ragged. For a food service job, your nails should be cut relatively short. Very long nails and food service don't go together, as bacteria and germs get trapped under the nails and can be transferred into a customer's plate and cause illness. Be prepared. Have extra copies of your resume and the names/addresses/phone numbers of your references with you. Before you go to the interview, think about why you want the job, and what skills you can bring to work with you each day. Be prepared to share that information with whoever interviews you. During the interview, turn your cell phone OFF and be attentive to the interviewer. Answer their questions thoughtfully, but do so as briefly as possible. You don't want to blather on and on. Think about what you're going to say, and then say it, and then be quiet. Have a question or two of your own ready for the end of the interview. Asking a couple of questions at the end shows that you are interested. After the interview, send a follow-up letter to the interviewer, thanking them for the opportunity to interview, and re-emphasizing your skills and why you're the best candidate. Put it in the mailbox the same day of the interview so that it will be received quickly by the person who interviewed you. If you're in the running but there's a question of which candidate to hire, a follow-up letter will often tip the balance in your favor because it shows attention to detail and a sincere desire to go the extra mile - things which an employer looks for in an employee. Good luck!

I have hired many people with no experience or never held a job. You want to look presentable in dress attire and hygene. You may also want to research a litle info about the buisness you are appyling to as this is your first job and you will also be able to let the management know you have done some research and have chosen to apply for this job based on their reputation. Good Luck
