Answer:
For starters, understand that I am writing you this heavily medicated and still in pain. I recently broke my ankle (tibia and fibula) right before the joint, and have been in a walking boot since the injury which was March 4, 2011. I am to have surgery in two days(waiting for swelling to subside), and let me tell you from a first hand perspective that there is nothing remotely fun or cool about breaking your ankle. When I injured it I heard and felt two pops, then an immediate rush of pain. After that I began to throw up which I'm chalking up to the pain/ adrenaline, or both. Luckily mine happened at work, so I'm not paying any outta pocket expenses. However, being on disability is far less than what I'm used to making so that's just one of the revolving problems I'll get to contemplate over the next 10 weeks. I guess the best description I can give you is that it feels like a constant, buzzing, throbbing, heart beating wound that is tingling in different areas all the time. I personally can't feel the actual bones broken, but I can hear them click against each other when I reposition myself. The site of the break is black, purple, blue, red and grey. The area around it is discolored and swollen, and very uncomfortable. There is no position in which it doesn't hurt, and it's constantly a chore to do trivial tasks. Some people may say at least you get meds, really? I don't even get a buzz from them, and they don't even make the pain go away, they make it manageable.

Well let's just say it could hurt like your going to die but in some rare cases you won't feel a thing.
It hurts- a lot. Then there is about 3 months on crutches which is no fun because they are awkward and you are in pain. If you are in plaster you can't have a bath or shower, and your arm or leg will drive you crazy with the itching which you cannot scratch. Depending on how bad the break is you could need surgery, you could be disabled for years or life . I was involved in an accident and because of the broken bones and severity of the damage was on crutches for 15 years! There is nothing cool about broken bones and you should tell your friends to think like that is not cool at all but slighly ridiculous.

I broke several of my ribs last year, thanks to a drunken body slam. While I don't remember if I felt them break at the time, when I woke up passed out on the floor in the fetal position I was in the most pain I have ever been in. There was no doubt that something was broken. Two of my broken ribs were broken in multiple places, when I would breath, they would kind of "pop" in and out. I sneezed the next day, and blacked out for a minute because of the pain. The one thing I learned from the whole deal is that Vicodin rocks, but it is definitely not worth the pain prior to getting the Vicodin.

I broke my wrist skiing... I thought it was dislocated but it was actually broken If your friend thinks its cool to break a bone they should wait a couple of days in a cast. Then try 6 weeks in one.. Not cool... Especially if you get an itch. Your body would release its own natural pain killers so you cant really feel it broken unless you move it around. It really depends on the break

i broke my ankle fibula and tibia last week there is a painful burning in your leg like 100 times worse then burning on a stove it cools off and goes on and off the and it is so bad that you cant go to sleep because the pain is so horrible and swells you cant walk in my case for 6 months once you do your muscle in your leg is the strength of a 5 year olds i dont recommend wanting to break your leg the crutches hurt your arm my point is it feels like **** maybe if you have a high tolerance for pain it hurts less but it still hurts like **** and i had surgery i had screws and a plate put in my leg you are never the same

It hurts and how bad it hurts depends on the persons pain tolerance and yes you can feel it is broken.

Hurts like hell. Quite often, you cant feel the actual break with your hands and if you suspect its broken, you shouldnt even try to feel for one as you might do damage. The only time you can feel the break with your hands is in case of a major fracture, in which case, it will probably be visable.
