Career change - Programmer to Plumber. Good idea?

    If you are after training in the UK go to MET UK, They are by far the best company to train with in the UK. But I would look at becoming a Corgi gas man. they earn more than plumbers. and the gas qualification covers you for plumbing work, but a plumbing qualification doesn't allow you to do gas work.

Look at it like this. If you will enjoy plumbing "(I like working with my hands, getting dirty, doing a variety of things, instead of sitting in one place)", then you should go for it. As long as you are going to enjoy what you are doing, then why not? Second, if money is that important to you, (why wouldn't it be though!!) then you should also. The higher you go up in plumbing, the more you will make, VS where you are at this point now! Good Luck! P.S. PLEASE wear a belt :)

As long as you'll enjoy it, go for it! There is, in many areas, a glut of programmers, but always a need for plumbers.

Awesome idea if you like manual labor. Plumbing is a very good field and we will always need plumbers. It pays a bunch too
