How big is the wheel from wheel of fortune?

How can Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune afford to pay those big bucks to everyone?

  • I know a majority of this money is used to pay taxes, but how much would the person(s) actually get after it's all said and done? How can they afford to stay on air giving away ...show more

  • Answer:

And now a word from our sponsor. Watch the credits at the end, and you'll see that a lot of "gifts" are "donated" by sponsors (see also Price is Right). The sponsors who pay for airtime provide the actual $$, either in the form of payment or as collateral for financing. The more $$ people make, the more people watch the show, the more people see the commercials. It's just a never-ending circle. Sort of like the circle of Game Show Life.

Don't listen to Kym-berly...No 30 second Super Bowl Ad has cost 5 million dollars. The advertisers just this past year began to spend aroudn 2 million per 30 second ad, which is no where close to 5 million. Kym needs to check her facts before she answers questions. I can't stand people like that on Answers who ignorantly tell people things they believe to be facts. These pre-teens need to stay off the world wide web.

They get paid from all those commercials between the show. The sponsors pay them a fee for using their ad on tv.

Wheel of Fortune is at the top of the list on the neilsen ratings for syndicated shows.... So is jeopardy... They charge top dollars for their advertisements I'm sure.

The money they give away (and about 30% of it goes for taxes) comes from advertisers. Commercials run during "Family Feud" are generally from corporate "sponsors" of the program. Since both "FF" and "WoF" have national audiences, their advertising revenue dwarfs the value of the prizes given away. This is a good thing for them, since so many other costs are involved in the production of these programs (personnel, equipment, studio rental, etc...) Think on the order of $62,788 for a 30 second spot on wheel of fortune (times 8-12 minutes of such spots in a 1/2 hour episode = 6.2 million in revenue). Family Feud runs at $12,023 for 30 seconds. Cheap by comparison, but still 1.2 million in revenue per show. That's how they afford to give away less than $100,000 per episode!
