What is the injury Hernia?

Could a car accident I was involved in have caused my newborn daughters umbilical hernia? had seatbelt injury?

  • I was 38 weeks pregnant. Seatbelt ammed into my lower abdomen. My daughter is now 9 weeksold and has just been diagnosed.

  • Answer:

I shouldn't think so, but it would be best to chck with your doctor. Pregnant women do not have to wear seat belts for the reason of possible injury to the unborn. don't worry it is not to serious and lots of babies have them.

No one can answer this question with 100% certainty. However, umbilical hernias are not that uncommon, and the overwhelming majority of babies with this condition have no history whatever of intrauterine trauma. I've never seen any cause long term problems and although rarely the odd one (less than 1 in 10) needs surgery, mostly they resolve spontaneously without any treatment by the age of 3 or 4, often sooner.

doubtful, dont blame yourself, it is very common for newborns to have umbilical hernia

By law, as a pregnant woman you dont afto wear a seat belt, its been proven to cause damage, to un born babies

oadbywonder

that's why pregnant women don't have to wear seat belts but they should come up with some other way to make them safe. it's a bit lazy of the car industry to say "baby or windscreen, you decide"

No. The unborn baby is well protected in the womb. It would take a freakishly tremendous lick to injure the baby. Umbilical hernia's isn't anything uncommon in newborns even at 9 weeks it isn't uncommon.

No. Umbilical hernias are extremely common. When you see someone with an "outie' bellybutton, that's due to umbilical hernia.
