More than likely, it is the increased blood circulation. You should check it for infection regurarly, as it could turn nasty. If this happens, you'll need antibiotics ASAP!

It happens to everyone who scratches like that. It's just a burn. Just like if you rub sandpaper against your hand fast it will hurt although it will give you a hot sensation.
