Vintage Backgrounds?

How do European backgrounds affect the day to day views and preferences of Americans with those backgrounds?

  • For example, do Americans with German backgrounds approach the workplace differently than English Americans? Most of the families are a mix of cultures after several generations, but I wonder if some of European Americans differences can be explained by the countries of their heritage even if unaware of that exact heritage.

  • Answer:

Usually no, unless they are first or second-generation immigrants. After two generations European-Americans are unlikely to have much trace of their original European culture. The only case where this might be partially preserved is where you have a small community of people from one European country and that community preserves some values and norms from the mother country. To a European all European-Americans have the same strongly American culture.
