I got a sunburn on my face... how can I reduce redness?

  • So I got a really bad sunburn on my face today (I wasn't thinking about covering my face when I went out; bad idea, I know), and it's really red. I'm not as much concerned ...show more

  • Answer:

make a cup of tea, leave the tea bag to cool, then dab it onto your face. It takes the heat out of the burn and the tannins in the tea help somehow but I am afraid I do not understand the science of how!

The skin can be hydrated by applying topical products containing Aloe vera and/or vitamin E, which reduce inflammation. Hydrocortisone cream may also help reduce inflammation and itching.[35] Avoid the use of petroleum jelly, benzocaine, lidocaine, and butter; these are false remedies which can prevent healing, damage skin, but relieve pain.[35] When treating open sores caused by a sunburn, like any other open skin wound, it is best to avoid lotions or other directly-applied ointments. However, antibacterial solutions and gauze can prevent skin infections. There are two home remedies which have been known to help. One method involves applying a clean washcloth soaked with cool (not cold) milk like a cold compress. In addition to the cool temperature, a protein film will form to soothe the pain and the lactic acid will help reduce inflammation.[36] A dilute solution of white cider vinegar (approx. 1 cup in a tub of water) applied in a similar fashion may also ease pain hope this helps

Ice or cold cloth will take some of the pain out momentarily ~ but the Aloevera gel is the best alternative for the healing

as everyone one said, lots of aloe and lotion. I would apply a few times a day. when my burnt my face i didn;t care so much about th redness but was mortified when it started peeling so badly. I have found though that if you put LOTS of lotion on from the beginning it greatly reduces the peeling

for a sunburn, your friends are right about aloe vera and aveeno baby lotion. ( i never use aveeno so i cant say aloe vera is better) but if you put on some aloe vera every day it should go away. after the aloe vera "dries" or w/e you call it, you could try putting on some natural makeup, but be careful of what makeup you use - if youre not careful it could hurt it more.

My wife is an esthishion (probably misspelled) anyways go to a spa place and get some face lotion from them. Aloe vera will clog your pores, alot of lotions will too. I cant remember the name of the stuff, but it took my redness and pain away pretty fast
