  • Answer:

I'm American and I'm in the UK right now and the reason why Americans dont seem to like british comedy is because we dont have access to it..theres barely any channels in america that play half the comedies they have. in the UK they get almost all of our channels. i dont think its fair. i think americans would love the inbetweeners and the IT crowd. btw fawlty towers is funny too.

Plenty of Americans love British comedies! You just haven't met enough, apparently. I enjoy The Mighty Boosh, The Office, and Monty Python, and I know I'm not the only one.

Lies! You simply don't know the right Americans. From what I know there are HUGE "Coupling," "Blackadder," "Father Ted" and "Red Dwarf" followings in the US amongst others. I myself adore "Are You Being Served?". I think that the average American is probably not a British comedy fan, but I think that has more to do with exposure than anything else. There aren't very many places to stumble upon British comedy here, I have no idea about the opposite in the UK.

Your stereotyping both Americans and British.. Stop it.

It's most likely because British comedies are horrible.

it's not the accent it's what you define as funny. I tend to think that it is all dressing up like women or physical stupid comedy. It's the material that makes it funny, British humor is just wonky.

Yes, All Americans believe we are 18th century, bad toothed, cockney scoundrels.

i think is because of the accent and the way they use the words..

We Americans like British comedies, but they're not terribly available over here, unlike American comedies in Britain which are widely available. Sometimes we Americans have a difficult time understanding regional British accents, but generally if something's being shown on BBC America and it comes to a part in the show where they think the accent will be hard on American ears, they actually have subtitles! A few Brits over here in the U.S. who have witnessed this actually think it's pretty funny.

I think that a lot of British comedy requires a peticular taste, and I think a lot of American, and other county's comedies too. I dont find a lot of American comedies funny, some I doo, but not the 'Family guy' kind. I have a deep and passionate love for dark british comedies however. I think it's down to what's available to people too: I think there are far more American tvshows on in the UK than there are British tv in America. There are very british jokes in some british comedies too that only make sense to the british, Same with American comedies.
