Is talcum powder the same as baby powder?

Which will heal a cut more quickly, talcum powder or baby oil?

  • If those are the only "cures" readily available?

  • Answer:

Neither. Just wash the cut with soap and water, then bandage it.

um....dont use either of those. they will just make it worse. just leave it alone and it will heal fast. if you have listerine then you could put some on the cut to kill the germs. dont use talcum powder or baby oil though.

Neither will do anything, just wrap it up and let your own flesh do the work.

Stop those; not good at all. Simply wash clean with soap 'n' water and let air at it. Dab cotton wet with hydrogen peroxide to cut, let it bubble, rinse and repeat twice. If you use a bandaid, let air to the cut under the bandaid. Keep cut clean!

Don't put either of those on a wound! Talcum powder will help with the blood clotting, but it could worsen any infection because it's a foreign substance. And baby oil would have no benefit whatsoever. If anything, it would make the area nice and warm and moist for bacteria to grow and start an infection! The best thing is to wash a wound with running water, and then let it dry out. There is an 'old wives tale' that honey is good to help a wound heal, but it's benefits are minimal (it has to do with the vitamin C content of honey).

The only thing that can "heal" a cut is the regrowth of epithelial cells, so the answer is time. I would not recommend putting either on your cut because both could have bacteria in them that would cause an infection.

In Japan, people sell Japanese girls' spit for 3.25$ per bottle to 'heal' cuts. ewww!!! stick your finger in your mouth (wash you hands first) and make sure you got it covered in saliva then spread it on the cut . make sure it dries. do it 2 times a day. i know it sounds gross until my friend fell off a bike and had a small cut on her big toe. i told her to put saliva on it. she said it was stupid but tried it anyway.. then, the next 2 days the cut was gone! cool huh?

Both will be no good. Just keep it clean and your body will heal it all on its own.

I would not use either as there would be no benefits from doing so. I would wash the cut in warm salty water and bandage it, and depending on how deep the cut is it might be necessary for you to get further help at your GP or the Hospital. But I would advise you not to use either of these products as they both contain chemicals which could aggravate or infect the wound as they are not sterile products.

Neither will do anything, except make it itch, perhaps, in which case you'd scratch it and it would take longer to heal. Unless it's a especially deep cut that won't stop bleeding, you're best of leaving it alone. Cover it up with a simple dressing if it's bothering you, and use a little antiseptic cream to stop it getting infected.
