How to treat an ingrown toenail?

How do you treat an ingrown toenail????

  • I have an ingrown toenail and it really hurts, please give me some pointers! THANKS!!!!!!

  • Answer:

Most physicians and podiatrists can take care of that for you. Here's what they'll do: They'll numb up your entire toe with local anesthetic (it stings at first but quickly goes away). They'll cut the nail back to the germinal matrix, the part just proximal to your cuticle where the nail grows from. Usually that's it. If it grows back fine, you're cured. If it grows back ingrown again, they'll likely repeat the procedure and obliterate the germinal matrix on the side of the nail that's ingrown. This will prevent it from ever growing back.

If it is already sore you will most likely need to get it removed are partially removed. You could try soaking your foot in warm water until your foot "prunes" and then lightly pulling up on the nail to relieve the pain by removing the pressure. Go to your doctor, depending on the severity of the ingrown nail he may do the removal are send you to a podiatrist.

okay this hurts really bad but it will work i went to the docotors and they keep telling me to just take a little piec of cotton and shove it under the toe nail. it works really well it is gone in like 2 or 3 days. do not cut the nail like theperson who gave you the same remnidy because it will just grow back in.

The first thing to do is; lift that corner out of the flesh.. then, don't cut that corner so short next time.

if its red and puffy, you can put polysporin if you see pus, you need to prick it and then put polysorin

i get them once in awhile, what i do is soak my foot in warm water for a bit. then if possible i put a little piece of a cotton ball under the part where the nail is growing into the skin. or if i can't do that i take fingernail clippers and clip the part that is ingrown. its a little like home surgery LOL what i can't believe is how a tiny little piece of nail can make my toe hurt so bad i can barely walk LoL. good luck

Go to the doctor. There's nothing you can do on your own.

This a common problem with toes. Keep your toenails clipped and if the nail is ingrown and swollen then it is imperative you see a podiatrist. They are the ones that should be digging it out. As infections can be dangerous with the toes. You can try to pull it out and put cotton under it to redirect the growth... but a podiatrist is the best bet.
