What are some recommendations for Agile Project Management software with portfolio management capabilities?
-
I'm currently working with a team of ~15 developers who need to find a decent agile planning tool for a medium size project. We're currently using JIRA for bug tracking and Rally for Scrum planning. Frankly, Rally is terrible. Everyone on the engineering team hates it. But Product Management higher-ups are attracted to its Portfolio Management capabilities. Right now we're trying to find a best-fit solution for engineer and PMs. Basically, something with a light, straightforward UI that let's engineers get in and out of task management quickly, but still provides a decent 10,000ft view for the managers. I would like to try to use JIRA and Greenhopper, but management is convinced this has no Portfolio Management capability. Other options like Sprintly seem attractive, but again, appear too lightweight for their needs. Do you guys have recommendations for software tools that fit both bills? Also, anything with decent github integration (issue tracking, code reviews, etc) would be wonderful plusses.

Unfortunately, we don't have a github integration (although we recently released an API so it should be possible: http://siasto.com/api). But a number of engineering teams use http://Siasto.com to track their work. It has a powerful task management module that allows task creation using keyboard shortcuts, subtasks, task assignment, lists, tagging, drag-and-drop re-ordering, and can be synced with a calendar, and GCal. Siasto also has an activity feed that will let you see exactly what all the other members of your team have been doing, without having to check project, or task. Here is a brief overview video:

My company provides Rally integration with JIRA if that sounds like a solution to you. Many people are asking the questions you are asking.

It seems that http://www.comindware.com/tracker is right the thing you are looking for. It has an issue tracking module. It provides collaboration tools either. And the managers will have their 10,000ft overview reports on the fly. The only requirement I'm not sure about is the github integration. You'd better contact the company to ensure that.

For project management with agile methodology you can go for web based tools like http://proofhub.com. It has features for task management, bug tracking, milestones, file sharing and proofing, planning, reporting, etc. These can make managing your work easy and efficient. I also found out an article which could be useful to you - http://www.proofhub.com/use-cases/agile-project-management-software.
