What do you call people from Basilicata?

What does it mean when people call you disabled when you're ACTUALLY NOT DISABLED?

  • There's too many people that call me disabled and don't conclude this question by saying ignore them ignore them. There's too many people that call me disabled and I act ...show more

  • Answer:

I can do all that and kick butt too. Still I'm not going to make it to the fight without this chair. Having a disability is nothing to be ashamed of or to make a big deal over. There has to be a reason why people say that. If not they are bullying you and you should not let them show you disrespect. You don't have to take that. You don't have to lie to yourself either.

It's a case of semantics. One can have a disability and not be disabled by it. Jay Leno is dyslexic, it's a disability, but he seems to do okay. Micheal Phelps has ADHD, another disability, but he's more physically capable than 99.99% of the population. So it's something of misnomer to declare some "disabled" just because they have even the slightest disability.

Excuse me? Disabled people can't spell? Disabled people can't handle problems? Disabled people can't settle things like adults and help people out? Ignorance is one of the biggest Disabilities!!! And you have it! You are very very Ignorant and very UNEDUCATED! I am Disabled. I was born with Spina Bifida and I use a wheelchair. Here are examples of how I CAN do things you think I can't: SPELLING: As you can tell, I can spell perfectly well and I know how to use punctuation. HANDLING PROBLEMS: I got pregnant at the age of 17. I had just split up from my baby's father when I found out......I had my baby when I was 18. I am now 20 and I have a beautiful little 18 month old daughter. If that isn't handling problems then what is? SETTLING THINGS LIKE ADULTS: Well, I manage my bills, do my house work, look after my daughter, cook, wash, iron.....the list goes on. Oh and by the way, I act very normal too. I would like you to email me and tell me why you think the Disabled cannot do these things please.

Disabilities are shortcomings sometimes. I am disabled, yet I act and am normal. I have graduated college and there are people who ask me if I'm going to elementary school.:<? I ignore them and later I call out to them-I'm a college grad-boy do they look embarressed. Don't let it get you down.

Well maybe it's how you look, act. talk, or walk.

Fake Name

Do you have a disability? I mean are you arguing that you can do what everyone else does? If you're in a wheel chair or on crutches then yeah people will probably describe you as disabled.

You are not telling the whole story. I assume you get a gov. check. A stone lunatic can type and spell.

The Ugly American

I smell a TROLL. I have a disability and I can do everything a "normal" person can do, if not better. perhaps they think you might have a disability because of your way of typing, and the speech you use. look at this question for example http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArGoApkND8dty5UoY6BTSvTsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100329084608AAGQJiE the writing is not really "normal" wouldn't you say.

Little Light

disabled may have nothing to do with how you act. It is not a criticism of you. I am disabled because I am in a wheelchair! I am all the things you describe, but I am physically disabled, which has NOTHING TO DO with who I am! I can't see you, and you don't provide a physical description, but if you saw someone who was exactly like you physically in every way, how would you describe them? If you didn't know them or anything about them personally. There is a phase called acceptance, where a person accepts who they are and who they appear to be, which follows the stage of questioning/challenging, where one questions how they appear to others, and fights with that perception. I have been through both, and am in the final stage, of which I forget the name, when the disabled person begins to work to change that perception. You are in questioning/challenging. I will pray for you, this stage is hard and can be painful.
