With all due respect to any and all who read this, if I still had all my faculties I would not go to a nursing home, or have carer's in going thro my stuff, or any, I would HATE to be a burden to anyone, I'd rather jump in the car and go away up some isolated place and finish off that way, no bother or problem to others of any kind.

My current home has a Pull Cord in each room so long as I can cope and be independent that is fine. I should hate a Nursing Home, having visited friends in such places, I know I would not be happy there. It is really too early for me to make such a decision, but like you Tom. I would prefer a carer.

If it gets that much worse I take a long walk on a short pier! It's why I live by the ocean.

I have thought a lot about this because I have no family who would take me in. We are estranged. Well, I have a house with three floors and I guess one day I will probably have to sell it if I get hurt and can't go up and down stairs. My own mother sold our house which was paid for because she couldn't keep it up. She moved into a trailer, stayed there for about four years and sold it and lived in apartments til she passed. In fact, she died at home suddenly, which is how i hope I will go. I would like to live independently because by the time I get old, too many of these stupid kids we have these days will be in charge and that scares me.

Thomas, when it comes to the time when I can't look after myself through ill health, then I have a trip to Dignitas in Switzerland planned. My daughters know what I want and have promised to follow my wishes. I would like to die with dignity at a time and place of my choosing. Not being starved, thirsty and dirty in a UK nursing home.

I have a living will and strict verbal instructions which I have no doubt my son and daughter will adhere to. I dIdnt raise them to feel obligated to perform nursing duties and I don't want to be in a room behind a door keeping my kids from raising their own families. Besides if I need physical help trust me they aren't up to it. However if I'm placed in nursing home and not alert they know all meds. are to stop except blood thinner and pain meds. Once I reach this stage I pray the Lord calls me ASAP ;)

I don't have much family, no children or wife. I don't think I would mind the nursing home so much if it came down to it. But,If I lose control of my bodily functions and am no longer able to clean up after myself then I don't want to be here any longer.

I would much prefer to stay in my own home but, i would hate too become a burden on my Wife and family.

I'm with you, Thomas. Leave me at home and bring in a carer - I wouldn't want to burden my kids when they have families to bring up.
