    You can pick up cheap wetsuits from about $65 (I live in Brisbane, grew up surfing in Sydney and Byron bay area), board can be a bit more expensive starting at around $400 but you can pick up second hand for cheaper. How hard you find to learn to surf depends on your natural ability and balance... and how well the teacher gets through to you... Some people take it up after one lesson and stands up, others will take months and still don't get it... but after another person explains it, might get it first go. There are various schools, but mostly includes board and suits hire... usually between $40 to $65 for lessons. You can google for some schools.
