How long should a beginner's surfboard be?

Hi. I am going to learn how to surf soon, and I was wondering how long I should buy my board if I am 5ft 1in? Is it ok to buy a 6ft board? Or will that be too short and make it more ...show more

The longer the surfboard the better it floats. the longest board that you can get is a 11ft and those are boats. but the longer the board the harder it is to turn and control. i am 5'3'' and about 115 and i have a 7ft board and that seems to work for me. also i would suggest to try a soft top board before getting a hard top. soft top boards float more and are much much hard to ruin. they are also a lot cheaper so if you decide not to surf anymore you didnt just spend 400$ on a new living decoration.
