How do you get sponsored in surfing?

    Nowadays all you have to do is be in a band, paint your boards, start a blog, and be able to do two air reverses in a video clip. Mainly just be really good and surf the premier breaks in your area. In newport, surf 56th and charge the wedge. San Clemente, surf lowers and riviera. SD, surf blacks and swarmies. Those areas will be full of industry guys and if you shred hard enough you could get sponsored. But times are tough and there are guys that are incredibly good (torrey meister, hang gaskel, etc etc) and they aren't sponsored. Ohh and personality goes a long way, if you are cool and fun to be around, companies will want you to endorse their product. Sponsorships are an investment for them, so they look to maximize brand awareness and sales through your representation. Good Luck!

If you don't want to enter competitions, then surf when competitions are on. Heaps of sponsors hang around competitions looking for new people to sponsor, so just go for a surf when there's a local comp on or something. This may not work at first, but keep trying. Also, get people to take pictures and videos of you surfing. Ask your local surf shop to hang the pictures up and if there are any sponsors interested ask them to give them your details! Most surf shops also have a TV with surf, skate or snowboarding films on. Make sure your surf film is good quality and ask them to play it :)

Ok so you have to surf like a demon....lets say you do! Do all the videoing and sending off and stuff... The point is to get noticed this is how someone I used to know did it. (I am not saying you do this and don't condone it an any way) He stole his moms car sold it to fund his trip to indos, took pics and videos and the sent his story into a magazine how published it...he is now a sponsored free surfer. The point is get notices... jump from a helicopter into a wave or something!!

It goes in this order: -Get really good. -Join a surf club/team -Enter contests -Win 1st place in a contest -A sponsor will walk up to you and sponsor you That's the best case scenario. Good luck!
