  • Answer:

Probably your best choice for setting holds directly into the side of a house is going to be Hilti adhesive/screen & insert systems. http://www.us.hilti.com/holus/modules/prcat/prca_navigation.jsp?OID=-12136 Not sure exactly which of the various epoxies you would use for your type of brick, but you can call and find that out when you order. I know that one of the screen/insert sets fits standard climbing bolts that come with Metolius or other climbing holds. You can either put one insert for every hold and just bolt the holds directly to the wall, or you can put the holds onto sheets of plywood and bolt the corners of the plywood to the wall. The plywood method uses less inserts and epoxy and puts less holes in your wall, but is a bit tougher to do in terms of getting everything lined up and getting bolts that are long enough to work with your holds but not so long that they hit the brick before fully threading. If you are just doing a short route to the second story, you would probably do ok with just bolting straight to the wall.
