I think you are looking for too thick of a rope. You might find 5/8 or 3/4 inch large enough. Nylon tends to be too slick and stretchy most of the time. High density high grade poly seems to stand up pretty well. NOT the yellow stuff that rots in the sunlight. http://www.cndrope.com/climbing.htm You should be able to find what you want at an industrial supply that servesscaffold riggers or tree cutters. I would likely try a mountain sports store if there is one near you. for example this one. http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441931713&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302691499&bmUID=1207937945656 They usually have ropes available on spools so you only buy what you need

A climbing rope is dynamic and will probably have too much stretch in it. You need a static rope which is more stable. Try a ship chandlers or a tree surgeons supplier.
