    Sorry, but knarly hands, cuts, scrapes, chewed up nails, skinned knuckles is just a hazard of the sport. Even those fingerless gloves are not "climbing" gloves. They are belay gloves. Climbers want to minimize what is between their hands and the rock to maximize grip. Somce climbers tape their hands, but it is to protect the softer skin on the back of the hands, not to protect the palms or fingers. So, your choice boils down to new hobby or new job. -Good luck

Try cave exploring. Gloves are required. There's stone up above you can touch too. The longer one exceeds 300 miles of surveyed cavern. Most cave climbs are rotten to start with so wearing clunky boots and full-body wetsuits under climbing harness should up the ante. Do it to save your nails.
