How hard is to climb Mount Whitney?

What do you need to climb Mount Everest? Is it a wise idea to climb it?

  Have you ever heard the idiom "The Elephant in the room" ? It refers to the question that should be obvious, but that no one wants to address. So my (rhetorical) question is this, "why do you want to climb Mt. Everest?" Oh sure I know all the clever answers, but when it comes down to a lot of money and devoting years to preparing your body and mind, and still a large chance of failure or disappointment you really need a good reason for doing something. I'm sure you already know many people do it each year, so it will not make you rich or famous. So I suppose what I am really suggesting is that you do a lot of soul searching to see if 1) you are really up to such a challenge and 2) if it is really worth the reward (what ever that is!). I love climbing, but I have never needed to climb Mt. Everest to satisfy my lust for adventure in the high country.
