Answer:
i work in an indoor rock gym in boston. when someone comes in for the first time we tell them, anything they want to wear. it would be best to wear shorts and a tshirt, or even sweats if you feel the need. as for shoes, at my gym we give you shoes to wear, they are designed for rock climbing so that you can grip the wall wiith your toes. I would assume that wherever you go they will rent shoes to you as well. If not running shoes that can be tied tight so that you feet dont shift in your shoes, when you are trying to grip rocks. Dont worry about gloves, you will notice that your hands hurt after a little while but it normal, dont believe in anything that you put on your hands to make them stronger. the best way to make your hands feel stronger is to keep climbing. also sometimes it might help to put athletic tape on your fingers if you feel the need. hope this helped have fun. climbing is a great time, its well worth it.

Wear comfortable clothes, nothing that will make you overheat. ( wear short sleeves with a hoodie as you will get fairly hot, and it is nice to have a layer to remove) DO NOT wear jeans, as they are VERY uncomfortable in harnesses ( i know from personal experience). you can either wear runners, or rent/buy climbing shoes. i do not recommend buying them if its a one time thing for you. most climbing places rent out shoes and other gear. Climbers do not wear gloves, as you do not need them. remember: when you climb, there is no right or wrong as to what you wear, choose something comfortable.

For clothing i would recommend wearing something that wont restrict your leg movements, so be sure you can lift your knees comfortably. Also i personally am a fan of wearing long pants because i personally am pron to hitting my knees on the wall and the extra layer of cloth is usually enough to prevent most cuts and scrapes. For shoes, if you have a large selection of athletic shoes i would pick a pair that is smaller and has less foam around the edges. Most indoor climbing gyms have shoes to rent, if you want to go that route bring socks.
You should where clothes that make you feel comfortable( nothing that will make you to warm). because your indoor rock climbing you wont need gloves because there aren't sharp rocks. you should where running shoes. Have fun

Just wear sneakers, and no, you dont need gloves, and it doesnt matter what kind of clothes.
