Camping on the beach?

Used to take my kids a couple of times a year when they were small. Our favorite place was the Nueces County Park in Port Aransas I made sure there was a sack of quarters for them to rinse off whenever they wanted and the campground fee included a hot shower once a day. We just lived in our bathing suits and we had long sleeve cotton shirts, wide brimmed hats and draw string pants to hide from the sun in during the hottest part of the day We ate single serving convienence packaged foods and plenty of liquids...cooking is no fun and keeping the sand out of stuff is tough... then went to a restaurant one meal per day...bottom line is we would sometimes stay up to a week and they were never ready to leave!

I always thought beach would be nice and soft to lay on. Nope... it's more unforgiving than grass .Bring something to lay the sleeping bag on. If you are going to be in and out of the tent all day then lay some plastic down inside then shake out the sand before turning in for the evening ... sand gets in everything and is annoying inside the tent. The wind picks up pretty good on beaches... are you prepared to use the right type of stakes for sand? Those cheap thin ones that comes with most tents are worthless on a beach. If you are going to be on the beach all day beforehand, find a way to rinse off before you get in the tent. Potential sand fleas and salt water residue on your body is not a real good combination for a good night's rest.
