Maryland camping?

I'm looking for a free, private camping area in the Frederick-Emmitsburg Maryland area?

  • A couple of friends and I are looking to go camping. We were going to go around the Monocacy River, but it's too dry to canoe. If anyone knows of any awesome camping areas...let ...show more

  • Answer:

try swains lock on the c&o canal, its got great fishing, hiking and views of the potomac , if that doesnt suit your style, try little bennet state park; it has an activity field , a playground, an ampitheater, and spacious campsites that always have a spigot near by, a table, and a high quality fire ring with barbaque gills that swing on top

Free and good dont usually happen. Most state parks have no charge if you hike in. Otherwise you may be on private property. If found it could cost you more than money.

I believe you can still camp along the C&O canal towpath along the Potomac in some places for free. The first area that comes to mind is Dickerson. You'd have to check with the U.S. Parks service to verify, though.
