Today is not enough of a headstart! The chances of you getting any kind of campsite in the valley over the 4th are very slim. As Chris suggested, camp outside the park in the National Forest where you can camp in dispersed locations and then enter the park for day trips. If you bring enough water you can camp about anywhere. Once you pay the Park entry fee it's good for a week. A bit of advice for anyone going to Yosemite or any other high profile destination. Don't go without reservations during the busy season. You will find very little sympathy or help when you arrive unprepared. The fact you don't have a place to stay is not an emergency for the people who have to deal with you. They are already too busy with people who did plan ahead!

Your chances on getting a campsite are slim to none..People have called for reservations months ahead of time..and there might be something available on the 1st and then reserved for the rest of the week..try for a reservation now..you might get lucky.

Call and make a reservation. I did this once thinking I would get ahead of the rush, but nope. We ended up getting the worst campsite. Now I always make a reservation.

Your taking chances for sure. Most sites at the park that are first come will be full by noon thursday by 7pm it's full up. Its too late to make reservations now also it's all booked including other places that are reservable. There are a lot of first come camping sites near there and in the national forest near there you can also camp in dispersed areas http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/recreatio… If you got an RV you can pretty much camp anywhere. I have had luck at finding spots at, Mc Cabe Flat http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/recreatio… and, Willow placer http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/recreatio… off hwy 140 in the busy hunting season. Another spot I have always enjoyed is called Fresno dome it's also a first come spot and has a lot of the same features the valley dose as for beauty but none of the crowds. http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/recreatio… Check with the forest service to get the details on dispersed camping area's near yosemite they may have some info on some yellow post sites as well. Good Luck!
